More about Crouch Hall Dental Care

  • Who we are

Brothers Dr Bilal Abbas and Dr Laith Abbas are the Co-Principals of the dental practice at 70 Crouch Road and have been running the clinic since 2015. It was Laith who put his knowledge and experience of interior design into making sure that our patients feel comfortable and relaxed in the surroundings of our clinics. This typical Crouch End style property has been open as a dental practice since 1917 and we wanted to use soft furnishings, sumptuous leather and artworks on the wall to give it a warm, welcoming and sympathetic vibe - Less dental clinic and more dental boutique!

  • We’re environmentally aware

We’re not just dentists in Crouch End, we’re also family members and as such we’re doing everything we can to mitigate climate change in our own small way.

We’re taking positive steps to lessen our carbon footprint, including making use of energy-saving light bulbs, reducing plastic and water use and providing high-quality preventative care to reduce the need for further treatments.

  • We’re community-minded

We love being at the heart of the Crouch End community and try to be actively involved in whatever way we can.

As part of this involvement, we offer free dental examinations at charitable events including treatment to those less fortunate. We also offer free basic life support training and make patients aware that we have defibrillators on site that can be used across Crouch End if needed.

  • Your treatment experience with us

Our aim is to provide a quality of dental care that is unlike anything experienced before. We take the time to get to know you better, allowing you to explain your dental fears, concerns and talk to us about your smile aspirations.

To us, you are more than just a patient. We treat you like a good friend, with honesty, integrity, compassion and respect. With unrivalled consultations and unparalleled patient care, we strive to ensure that you receive not only the best dental care in Crouch End and the surrounding London areas but also, the country!

Answers to commonly asked questions about Crouch Hall Dental Care

Please look through the following sections for answers to common questions about our Crouch End dental practice, treatments and service.

If you can’t find what you’re looking for, then no problem, simply give us a call on 0208 340 1453 and ask.

  • Do you accept NHS patients?

We’re pleased to provide dental care for private and current NHS patients. We are currently not able to accept new NHS patients.

  • Do you provide an emergency dental service?

We know that dental emergencies can occur at any time. Whenever necessary, we’ll squeeze you in for a same-day appointment. Whether that’s for pain relief or to provide essential treatment, simply call us on 0208 340 1453 if you need dental help.

  • Are there any dental specialists at your Crouch End practice?

Absolutely! We currently have a team of dental specialists providing oral surgery, periodontal (gum) surgery, specialist crown and bridgework and orthodontics (teeth straightening).

  • What type of teeth whitening do you provide in Crouch End?

We provide in-chair teeth whitening take-home whitening using Enlighten which is clinically proven to be safe and effective. Almost anyone can benefit from tooth whitening although we will need to perform an oral examination to ensure your mouth is healthy before applying any bleaching gel.

  • How long does teeth whitening last?

It all depends on how well the patient cares for their teeth after treatment and whether or not they continue with lifestyle habits such as drinking coffee and red wine or smoking which likely caused the staining in the first place. However, teeth whitening can be expected to last for 12 months or longer although whitening ‘top-ups’ may be required from time to time.

  • Is teeth whitening safe?

Yes, teeth whitening is safe when carried out under the guidance of an experienced dentist, producing better, longer-lasting results than store-bought whitening products.

  • Are dental veneers permanent?

Most dental veneers involve removing a thin layer of tooth enamel to ensure the veneers fit flush within the smile and to help them adhere. Since tooth enamel can’t regenerate, it means this procedure is irreversible in most cases.

  • Will people know that I am wearing a dental crown?

Absolutely not. Our crowns are precision made, carefully sculpted and shade-matched to neighbouring teeth to blend seamlessly into a smile. Our porcelain crowns look incredibly lifelike because they have a similar translucency to that of tooth enamel.

  • What problems can facial aesthetics treat?

Facial aesthetics such as anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers can treat a variety of problems including fine lines, wrinkles, sagging facial skin, tear troughs and thin or uneven lips.

  • Do facial injections hurt?

No, Because we use a combination of ultra-fine needles and gentle dentistry most patients feel a slight pinch but nothing more. However, if you are particularly sensitive, we can always use a topical cream to numb the area and make the procedure more comfortable.

  • How do anti-wrinkle injections work?

They work by blocking signals sent by the muscles to the nerves. This prevents the muscles from contracting which makes wrinkles and fine lines relax and look softer. While you will notice a visible difference right away, it can take up to 14 days for the treatment to take full effect.

  • Are anti-wrinkle injections permanent?

No, the effects will gradually fade away. So to remain wrinkle-free, a patient will need to have regular treatment approximately every 3 months.

  • When are dermal fillers used?

Dermal fillers are injected into the face to fill lines and wrinkles and to add volume to areas of the face such as the lips or cheeks. However, they’re not permanent and patients should know that they will need replacing between 6 and 18 months. Most of them contain a natural substance already contained in the skin, hyaluronic acid.

  • Inlays and onlays

Also known as indirect fillings, inlays and onlays are often used when a tooth is too badly decayed or damaged to be treated with a regular filling. They differ from regular fillings because they are created outside of the mouth from a digital impression taken of the tooth. Whereas an inlay is cemented within a cavity, an onlay covers more of the tooth.

The main benefits of inlays and onlays, as opposed to a dental crown, are that they are more affordable and less invasive. Usually, they’re placed at the back of the mouth to provide a long-lasting restoration or to repair large areas of damage on the front teeth.

  • Root canal

Root canal treatment is a part of dentistry known as endodontics and refers to the inner part of the tooth or dental pulp. It’s one of the hero dental treatments because it’s designed to save a tooth and prevent the need for tooth extraction.

Dental pulp contains a network of nerves and blood vessels and extends from the top of the tooth (crown) to the roots. The pulp can become infected as a result of trauma to the mouth, dental decay or a particularly deep filling.

Root canal therapy typically involves two or more dental appointments to complete and while it has a reputation for being painful, in reality, it gets a patient out of pain and saves the tooth and is no more uncomfortable than a regular dental filling.

  • Gum treatments

Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss and yet it’s a condition that can be easily prevented by maintaining a good level of oral hygiene.

In its early stages gum disease is called gingivitis and when treated promptly can be reversed. However, without treatment, it can quickly develop into a more severe condition known as periodontal disease. This can lead to gum recession, bone erosion and tooth loss.

Gum disease is caused by the bacterial laden plaque that gradually builds up on our teeth and if this isn’t removed it turns into tartar. This irritates the gums and causes an infection that leads to sore, swollen and bleeding gums.

The best way to prevent gum disease is to remove plaque effectively. This means thorough daily brushing and flossing at home combined with regular hygiene visits for a scale and clean. Other ways to help reduce the risk of developing gum disease include quitting smoking, eating a healthy well-balanced diet and lowering your stress levels. More severe cases may require treatments such as root planning to prevent bacteria from sticking to them and pocket reduction.
